A few years back, when I was living alone in my one bedroom bachelor apartment, something very disturbing happened.
The second most disturbing sound one can hear as they are lying in bed, alone, drifting thru that zone of "Not Awake / Not Asleep". Just sort of a throat clearing, that is.
I heard…
My toilet flush.
And I did not sleep well the rest of the evening.

One time, when I was home alone, happily typing up something in my room, all of the toys in my son's bedroom starting going off at once.
It was in that gloaming time--not quite evening, but still with a touch of daylight--and yet it still freaked me out to no end.
Okay, so far Blogger has not allowed me to leave comments out in Blog World anywhere yet this morning. *sniff* No idea why, but it seems the Blog Gods want me to keep my opinions to myself today, the bastards. But I'm going to cross my fingers and give it another try. Ready? Here goes nuthin'....
SWEEEEEEEEET! IT WORKED!
:-)
And I second what Jenks just said. When Gwen was a baby she had an Ernie doll which started talking in the middle of the night for no reason whatsoever and waking up to THAT was pretty frightening. So frightening that I actually got rid of the doll because he was possessed. Clearly.
And you did not get up to check on it?
One of my new ceramic pieces occasionally will clink like there's something alive in there trying to get out. It's not as freaky as a toilet flushing, but I NEVER get up to go look inside the vase.
LOL! the toliet in our masterbath use to do that, flush on it's own. Walter did something to it that made it stop.
Yes, I did get up and check, and water still filling my bowl let me know that it was definately my toilet that I heard.
Turns out that there was a slow leak between the tank and bowl and eventually the tank level dropped enough that the float tiggered a flush. I eventually called the office and had it fixed.
I would have included all that info in the post, but that would have been a little anti-climatic.
Outside, on the west wall of my bedroom, there's a wooden gate. For months, every night around 2 am I would hear it open. Scared the crap out of me! Then I realized it was one of the neighbor cats coming to eat dinner.
Can you say Paranormal 2?
it's currently kicking some serious ass at the box office.
Hey, ghosts were people once too...
I haven't had that many weird experiences in my life, but my sister can see dead people.
Seriously, she is sensitive like that.
