Tuesday I was waiting in line @ Potbelly's (think "Starbuck's" for sandwiches) for lunch and I noticed that the guy running the cash register had done a "MacGyver" on his glasses.
Oh, there was tape. But not the standard "nerd tape across the bridge" thing. No. He kicked it up a notch. Or seven.
He taped a green bendy straw to the side to replace the missing temple.
GENIUS! It even bends behind the ear!
I got to the register and had the following conversation:
Scope: So, when did you break your glasses? And I fear the answer.
MacGyver: About 2 months ago. But I'm going to get them fixed.
Scope: (laughing) No you're not.
MacGyver: (sheepishly) You're probably right.

I once lost a pin out of a pair of glasses in my glass blowing class. Must've been the heat. The pin just popped out and a lens fell out and we couldn't find the pin. So, I fixed it with a thread. I sewed my glasses back together! Hee hee hee.
The straw idea is quite cute.
The straw idea is great!!!! (So is MacGyver!!)
If awesomeness were crayons, this would be twelve shades of red.
Right.
I have no clue.
But it was awesome.
Nice glasses fix! Back when I wore them, I remember my best lost my glasses moment. I was riding in front of some friends on the roller coaster, and turned around to say something (probably awesome) to them, and the wind took them right off of my face.
So I bumped into things the rest of the evening.
At least he was honest.
Hahahaha, I like how you called him on his bullshit.
Oh the dreaded broken glasses! I feel his pain!
Don't mock. I had a big band of tape holding one of my glasses' arms on for about 6 months. I looked cool. Very cool.
Hey, if it ain't (re)broke, don't fix it.
I have a story similar to SkyDad's. Only it was my brother, looking out the window at a flattening tire, while going down the freeway at 70 miles an hour.
Those suckers FLEW!
Hahaha! Awesomesauce!
I love that you called him out and that he was honest. Great story!
Yes, MacGyver's admitting it had a touch of selfawareness or a guy who knew in his soul that he was a lazy slacker, and while not exactly all right with that, had accepted it, if not totally embraced it.
BWAHAHAHA!!
you so busted him...
