I my Medan computer desk that I bought Arhaus Furniture a year ago, I really do. I understand that it is a modern interpretation of an antique that you found, and I love the sliding printer shelf, and the cutouts for the wires and stuff. The cabinet is beautiful, as your website shows:But one feature left me confused. Maybe it's a cultural thing, since it was designed in Indonesia.
The little brass latch that holds the desk surface vertical for that 0.001% of the time that the desk is closed… You know, this thing…
the bit that looks a lot like a flatworm… American men aren't so keen on having a brass spear tip pointed right at their junk.
Yours truly,
Scope
PS – I little Scotch Tape solves the problem.
This post was inspired by Cora (for the love letters), Cowguy (for the cabinets) and Lorena Bobbitt (for ummmm, the fear).

Are you saying that British men do like it?
I agree. That's a little too close for comfort.
HA HA HA!!
Dear Scope;
I love you.
Thank for clarifying I helped inspire this post because of the love letters.... and not because I point dangerous-looking spears at your junk.
Love,
Cora
PS - Watch out. Writing love letters is risky blog business these days. Ever since I wrote love letters again last week I lost two followers.
*sniffle*
Maybe I should go back to drawing cartoons of my boobs....
That ranks right up there with the goofiest hardware design ever. Not just the ding dong shape of the silly thing, but... a bolt dangling on a chain to pin it up? Man, that's a gate catch down at the barn.
oh my GOd I laughed out loud at this.
just put your junk in your trunk. dude.
It appears it was designed with circumcisions in mind...
hahaha, nice. Yeah that seems like kind of an Asian thing, I like it but I never had to think about the spearing issue.
Obviously designed by a woman in retaliation for panty hose and high heels.
Shaking my head, just shaking my head (wait, that could be misconstrued).
It was probably designed by an Indonesian woman. I hear they like to torment American males.
Don't you wanna live dangerously? Imagine the posts you could write, about the injuries you could suffer, if you time it just right.
@mo.stoneskin - While I doubt it, you have been in France recently, so I don't know how you roll. I didn't wish to presume American arrogance and speak for you.
@Some Guy – That it is. That it is.
@Cora – To clarify, Cora has yet to threaten my junk with any pointy objects. Or blunt objects, for that matter. And in the yin/yang of the Universe, I wrote a love letter and picked up 2 followers.
@Cowguy – Please learn from the mistakes of others, and if you build something like this, use one of the other bazillion was to secure the desk, or at least attach a bit on the bottom to use the bolt and chain to fasten it in the down position, too.
@Vodka Mom – What's the old joke? "If I could do THAT, I would never leave the house!"
@SkylersDad – I disagree. There was no thought process involved in that bit of design! :-)
@Soda and Candy – There is also the more likely issue (but less funny, so I didn't mention it) that a sudden twist in the swivel chair will scrape the knife point right along the top of your thigh. The EVIL does not discriminate based on gender.
@Fancy Schmancy – I've heard women state that they like high heels. I have never heard the same about hose.
@Sassy Britches – On this blog? An innocent comment taken into the gutter? My dear lady, you wound me far worse than this hardware ever could.
@Char – I know not of Indonesian women. The closest I get is Filipinas. And the are the sweetest, kindest women on the earth. (~E?) Unless you piss them off. Then it's like a bomb.
@J.J. – I am not that in need of blog material, but thanks for asking.
Darn! ; )
Now I've lost THREE followers. Care to explain that one, Mr Yin Yang?! What is it? Does my blog smell? Tell it to me straight. I can t-t-take it.
*sniffle*
No dear, your blog isn't the "smelly blog."
And I just got another so I'm at 78 now! They are leaving you for me! :-)
(But seriously, people, she's much better than I am. Oh, and her blog is better, too.)
Soooo, it's kinda like I'm sharing the wealth then? Yeah, okay. That sounds good enough to shut me up for awhile. ;-)
