2010 Winter Olympics – Part 2

Olympic_Rings I seriously thought I would be blogging about the Olympics a lot more than I did.  I watched a good bit of it, but Cora's visit in the middle of them, umm, distracted me a little.

So, before they fade from memory, I thought I would wrap up some final thoughts.

Short Track Speed Skating:  Every time I heard the name of two time silver medalist Lee Ho-Suk of South Korea's name, I thought:  Warren Zevon  - Werewolves of London.

I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand

Walking through the streets of Soho in the rain.
He was looking for a place called Lee Ho Fook's
Going to get himself a big dish of beef chow mein.

Bobsled:  Steven Holcomb's bobsled "Night Train" ended a 62 year drought in US medals in the sport.  But I couldn't help but think that Steve looked like a good ol' boy who had probably enjoyed a little "Night Train" in his life.

Two Man Luge:  You'd think the guy on the bottom would be
"the driver."  Seriously.

Closing Ceremonies:  Catriona Le May Doan, who got JOBBED at the opening ceremony, lit the cauldron, solo.  Class move.

AND SHATNER!

Hockey: I become interested in hockey every 4 years.  I remember watching the "Miracle on Ice" game as one of my earliest hockey memories.  While I would have loved to see the US win gold, as a "Canadian-American", I can live with the results.

Johnny Weir: Lord all-mighty!  Going with Rockin The Tassel"Johnny Weird" would be too easy.  While I didn't watch a whole lot of figure skating, I did hear him utter the phrase "rock the tassel".  Seriously?  "Rock the tassel"?

I don't care what his or anyone's sexual orientation is (except Cora's), there's something seriously wrong with going out of your way to take an old tired stereotype of the effeminate male figure skater, and saying, "Screw 11, I cranking it to 17!"

I mean, I hear after his short program, Adam Lambert called him up and said, "Dude, butch it up a little."

I think I've made my sexual orientation clear. ;-)

By the way, you should check out The Vegetable Assassin's Olympics blog post. I think you'll definitely appreciate it:

The two man luge is pretty well the gayest sport other than naked all male leap frog, yet those figure skaters (assuming figure skating is a sport, which it ain't) somehow outgays 'em all.

I think my problem with most men's figure skating is the "unmanliness" of it. Which get's translated as "heterosexual vs. homosexual" and really isn't. You can be a "man's man" and still be a "man's man"

See, with the two man luge, there's the "manliness" of death as they rocket down the track.

In most of the men's figure skating, there's the athleticism of the jumps. But the costumes tend to be an "unmanly" aspect of it. In Johnny's case, he took it to "anti-manly". On purpose.

Like I said, toss out the "jazz hands" and concentrate on the spins and jumps, and hey, I saw a guy do a flip once on skates, do that, too, and I'd watch more.

And for grins, have them roll out 10 barrels for you to leap over. Come on. Do you watch NASCAR for the percission passing or the spectacular wrecks?

I watched so much coverage that I over-dosed on it. My favorite moment was the Canadian bump skier winning gold and hugging his older brother with CP.

I pretty much watched most of the Olympics.... except hockey. The boyfriend was yelling at the TV so I had to leave.

I should start a luge and call it 'The Moooooog Looooooge' except instead of two-man it would be a guy on the bottom, girl on the top and you should really see how I've got this steering mechanism worked out.

@ Cora: LOVE your 1st sentence. lol!

Johnny Weird (yes, I call him that) is too gross for words. I muted the tv and checked my e-mail whenever he skated. One of my bestest friends is gay...but he's not THAT gay!

I saw a clip where he commented on 'how stupid' the judges were...BEFORE the competition!!! Dumb@$$! He's lucky he got 6th place.

But not all figure skaters are girly. You saw my post about Charlie. Watch him skate and you'll notice how "manly" he is...although the hair does make it a little confusing. ; )
