It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that after 25 years, Salvador's Mexican restaurant in Chicago is closed. The home of the burrito suizo grande and the monster margarita. (On the rocks with salt) I was with them thru 3 locations, and a couple of name changes. Gone.
We had some good times, didn't we?
- You introduced me to queso fundido with carrizo. Loaded into a nice flour tortilla. Yum.
- It was in your dining room that I heard the acoustic version of Elton John's "Nikita" played on Spanish guitar.
- The double grande margarita night. That was a long train ride back to the burbs. And a cold nap in the car so that I was okay to drive home.
- And you are the place where I had my going away party from Kirkland last Cinco de Mayo.
And "Yes," that is a fishbowl full of margarita. Muy bueno!

Adios mi amigo. *sniffle*
Nice pic, Scope. The fishbowl cracks me up. And as I'm sure you know it's better to drink with the fishes than sleep with them. *wink* (Ooh! Sudden Troy McClure flashback!)
And, hey, where's your sombrero?!
I hate when someplace I love closes.
There was a fabulous little drive through ice cream place here, and it's no longer there. It was the greatest.
From the look on your face, I'm guessing you're not on your first one of those.
Cora - I believe that IS my sombrero that Serg is wearing.
Some Guy - I believe that is #2 that I'm working on, there, as a matter of fact.
That is one prize winning pic there my man! Love it.
We always hate to see one of our old favorite haunts disappear too.
I would love to drink a margarita out of a fishbowl, as opposed to just drinking out of the fishbowl.
I want a fishbowl full of lime flavored tequila! AND a funny hat! I am so much jealous I can't even think.
It looks like the straw in that fishbowl is too short to be effective. At what point do you attempt to drink right out of the container?
My condolence, RIP Salvador's Mexican restaurant
About the Quick Hits: My step mom did the same thing. She's in her 60's but put 1972 in there to make herself 36! Ummm.... why? She only fb's with family and we all know her age, so why the lie?! I was going to mock her for it, but she changed it before I got around to it. As for the XGF, do it. Bust her. Anyone who lies about their age is just asking to be outed and humiliated! Let me know what she does. Hee hee.
O.G. - Welcome, I was just over at your site yesterday, tracking back from Gwen @ Every Thing I Like...
And for the record, the straws were more "swizzle sticks" than anything. I drank from the container from the start. It's a much better comic effect, and the dark shirt hides any spillage.
Cora - I actually heard back from her. She claimed the age fib was to make it harder for high school people to find her. Whatever.
Yeaaahhh, I'm not buying that load of crap! The best way not to be found by the highschool herd would probably be not to list which highschool you graduated from, wouldn't you say? Whatever, indeed. ;-)
And...that's the look of a guy drinking a fishbowl full of margarita.
A fishbowl? Well that explains the look on your face, at least.
That looks f'ing delicious!
If you ever find yourself in L.A., I recommend a place called El Tepeyac aka Manuel's. The Manuel's Special (burrito) easily feeds 4 people...not that you're eating for 4, of course!!! ; ) As for the booze, mom has the BEST recipe...frozen limeade, margarita mix and José Cuervo. Oh, and ice!
I feel your pain and am wearing black today in your honour. In mourning. Because the loss of any good margarita is a loss indeed.
Sniff.
You GUYS! Jeez, give a guy a break! He looks like that because the owner took HIS sombrero and he feels naked and insecure withOUT it!
I'm so very sorry for your loss.
(one of the only reasons I would be sad to leave Texas - excellent Mexican food, everywhere! Come on down.)
That amigo looks a little too happy!
Closed. Never since memories are forever.
