Last Friday, I was out in the far western suburbs at a conference in the city's historic downtown area. After the meetings, I was supposed to get a ride back to the hotel with my boss's boss. I was following her out, but got distracted and lost them in the crowd.
Crap! But I'll just email them on the BlackBerry and… no BlackBerry. That means no phone numbers. No email addresses. I'm not sure which direction the hotel is. And…
Double crap! I left my wallet back at the hotel!
So there I am, standing on the edge of the quaint little traffic circle in town, slapping the hell out of my self, screaming "It's only a dream! Wake up stupid. It's only a dream!" Well, the fifth hit or so REALLY hurt like a mother. It wasn't a dream.
I eventually make it back to the hotel in time to get cleaned up and meet everyone for dinner. In the room, I found my wallet and BlackBerry but no car keys. Instead there was a valet ticket. So I flipped on my robe, and tracked down the hotel owner her was just heading off on her evening walk. She told me that she didn't have valet parking, and that my car was in the parking lot. Fearing a revealing gust of wind, I went back to my room, dressed, and found the keys on the dresser.
I headed out, and as I closed the door, I met up with some friends…
And woke up from the dream.

Why is it that you always end up without your pants on in your dreams, huh?
;-)
That wasn't a complaint.
*snicker*
It's bad enough when a valet moves your car unasked for real, but if they do it in your dream, that is surely uncalled for!
I never have dreams that make a lick of sense, just jumbled images. I fear I may be insane...
Hahaa, that's brilliant. I've never wondered if I was dreaming when I was, which is weird because none of my dreams are even remotely realistic.
That actually sounds like a nice dream. A man without his pants is (almost) always a nice mental image.
Now, a neighbor keeling over dead on your front lawn...that's a bad dream. Thankfully he's still alive.
I'm confused.
Cora - I'm not sure why I end up with no pants so often in my dreams. I just can't wait until I wake up with no pants more often, and it's not a dream.
mo.stoneskin - I remember once parking my car at a different spot in the train station, and then totally freaking out after work when I couldn't find it. I walked back to the station to call tha police to report it stolen, but stopped when I walked right past it again.
SkylersDad - My dreams usually have a narrative, and follow certain themes. More about that someday.
Soda and Candy - I sometimes will force myself awake because a dream is just too stupid, and I want it to end.
J.J. - But after you dreamed about the neighbor dropping dead on the lawn, did you keep an extra sharp eye on him for a week?
JenJen - Relax, it was all a dream. Even the part where I slapped myself to wake-up. Dreamt that, too.
Try months. He picks up our paper and puts it against the door in case mom is gone and I have to get it.
