Spring Ahead

Daylight Savings Time tonight! Don't forget to set your clocks ahead an hour tonight.

This is as sure of a sign of spring as the battleship grey sky and the rain that we are having all weekend.

In 1988, I had been at my first job for a few months when "Fall Back" occurred. On the Monday after, it was 4:00 and my supervisor go up, put on his jacket, and got ready to leave. As he walked past, he could see that I was hard at work on a project, so said, "Don't stay too late tonight."

I looked back at him and said, "Ya know, it's only 4:00, right?" He looked at his watch, muttered, and sat back down at his desk, looking crushed.

When I stood up and put on my coat at 5:00, I turned to him and said, "Don't stay too late tonight."

Oddly, he didn't find that as funny as I did.

I'm not kidding when I tell you that my Mom will be calling me and my brother and sisters to remind us.

The two clocks I rely on most (cell phone and computer) update themselves so, no worries here.

It's sunny and (the temp says) 64, but it feels more like 74.

Ahh, Spring!

Zibbs - Luckily, my real estate agent sends out reminder cards. Otherwise, I would have forgotten.

JJ - You really know how to hurt a guy.

And I'm so lazy, that about a month ago, I had a brief power outage and still have a couple of clocks that I didn't set, with the rational that I would just set them with DST in a month anyway.

I have some older electronics around here that change to DST at he older time, so I always have to change them twice!

My parents reminded me yesterday. But in my case, it's a good thing they did, 'cause I'm such a spaz!

Honey, you have no idea! Does a crutch to the crotch sound like a good time to you? lol! I've nailed a brother's friend - twice. ; )

BOO for supervisors with no sense of humor!

And BOO for having to wake up an hour earlier! Monday morning is going to HURT. 3am, Scope. 3 freakin' am!! OUCH.

And since I'm booing everything else, BOO for the snow we're getting tonight too!

Okay, thank you for letting me get that out of my system. *sigh* I feel much better now. :-)

Thanks for that. I have to get up to ski patrol after doing a night duty tonight. I'm not going to be in a good mood.

I came in here at what I thought was 12:30 CST, saw the title of your post and just about shit my pants. I had totally forgotten about that whole daylight savings time bs, thank you so much for posting this!

As it is, I was only 5 minutes late for my job interview today, and ended up waiting for the boss for 10 minutes...lol. Thankfully he said he couldn't exactly blame me for forgetting about the time change seeing as he had himself as well. Not only that, but I got the job! Yeah me...lol.

So thank you, thank you, thank you! Had it not been for this post, I'd have been an hour late, not just 5 minutes. Again, many many thanks!

You mainlanders have fun with that DST thing. I hope all of you function Monday with the one hours sleep loss. Scope, that means you have to go to be earlier and not find some obscure reason to booze it up citing some holiday reason!!!

Huu?Here in Europe we change the hour on march 29!!

Scope said...

Raf - And don't think that isn't messing with my mind as I try to do the time conversions for switching my servers around Europe from running on local time to running on UTC (Universal Time Coordinated.) (Like GMT, but not.)

Fortunately, I got a smart cop and he realized immediately that the time discrepancy was because the old hag set her clocks forward before going to bed Saturday night.

After daylight savings I sometimes play mind games by telling myself it is really only 11:00 when it's midnight. I can keep that up for weeks. I need to stop treating it like jetlag and just get over it. No complaints here about getting more light in the evening.

Our alarm clocks both reset to the older DST. Everyone in the neighborhood will know in a couple weeks when the clocks change on their own, and I get up and ready for work an hour early. :-)
